After another exciting March Madness tournament, only two teams are left and are set to play each other in the National championship game. The Kansas Jayhawks, who were the only number one seed to make it all the way to the end, will play against the North Carolina Tar Heels in the national championship.
After going 1-1 in last year's NCAA tournament, the Jayhawks looked redeem themselves in this year's tournament and they have done just that. In the round 64, they took care of Texas Southern in a blowout win by a score of 83-56. In the round of 32, it was a tougher game against Creighton in 79-72 win and in the Sweet 16, they beat Providence in a narrow 66-61 win. In the Elite Eight, they beat Miami who had made their first Elite Eight in school history. The win that sealed their birth to tonight's national championship game was a win over the Villanova Wildcats.
In the Final Four game, forward David McCormack had 25 points and 9 rebounds and guard Ochai Agbaji had 21 points. Kansas jumped out to a 38-19 lead and although Villanova made the game close, Kansas was in control the whole game. They will look to finish off the run against No.8 seeded North Carolina.
This tournament run for North Carolina has been special. It started in the first round with a dominant win over the Marquette Golden Eagles with a score of 95-63. In the second round, they pulled off one of the biggest upsets in the tournament when they beat the former national champion Baylor Bears 93-86. In the sweet 16, they pulled off another upset and beat the No.4 UCLA Bruins. In that game, guard Caleb Love had a spectacular game scoring 40 points going 11/24 from the field and 6/13 from three point range. In the next round, they beat the No.15 seed St. Peters 69-49 and in the final four, they handed Coach K and the Bluedevils a close 81-77 loss to make it to the national championship.
Both of these teams have had spectacular runs to get to the national championship and the game itself should be another thriller. The guard matchup between Caleb Love and Ochai Agbaji will be something to watch. Both guards are great shot creators and fearless with the ball in their hands. The game is set to tip at 6:20pm PST.
